The Brief
The original website for this popular Scottish destination was outdated and failing to convert visitors into guests. Despite its popularity, the hotel lacked a digital presence that matched its vibe. The goal was to build a site that handled complex booking requirements while giving users a real taste of the location before they even arrived.
The Process
I moved away from the typical “rustic” hotel aesthetic and went for a fresh, clean, and slightly dark palette inspired by the Scottish landscape. Built in Kubio, I focused the UX on a key feature: a live backyard feed, knowing that travelers specifically look for real-time weather and views of the area. I collaborated closely with a developer to integrate a custom booking engine, ensuring the design didn’t break under the weight of the technical requirements.
The Result
The site went live in about six weeks. While the client has made some tweaks of his own since launch, the core structure successfully simplified the booking process and gave the hotel a professional, boutique feel that actually drives reservations.
